I am just building a quick IIS server on a spare desktop for a quick HTML/PHP forms Intranet. I decided to give ChatGPT a try on finding me some installation instructions. I used ChatGPT instead of Google to look up instructions.Have you talked to Egnyte about these issues, they are all covered in tech notes so Im really baffled that nobody has mentioned this to you before How are you connecting the Mac to Egnyte - the new Egnyte Drive Mac client does away with WebDAV and even traversing files in cloud from my home DSL is as quick as you would need it to be.Įgnyte say for higher demand situations you should be using the Egnyte storage instance which is a VM you provision on your local setup. When you say using the VM, you are saying put the NAS in a VM setup instead of a NAS?Well the accepted solution for Mac file servers remains AFP (no matter what people say) I lived with 40,000 Mac users in a previous job and the only solid solution is Acronis Access Connect which presents AFP but that protocol doesnt work with Egnyte We tried the vfs_fruits, it was still WAY slower than just setting up a separate NAS with AFP. The cloud is the authority.ģ.) We have some users (including myself), who prefer to use the mapped drive directly to the cloud.ġ.) It's critical to our executive team that our users be able to access there files offline when they are traveling (no internet connection if on a plane or something).Ģ.) Globally accessible in a secure way (we have offices in 3 different countries).ĥ.) Able to have permissions for a private folder and shared folder and granular access based on user/group.Ħ.) Able to share files with outside users.ħ.) Something that we can control the bandwidth of so when a user upload a 18 gig file on accident it doesn't crush the network. We have a NAS in every office that syncs to the cloud. They can't use the cloud drive because they are dealing with files that are 50MB+ (art files) in size.ġ.) Our laptop users (85% of our users use laptops) use local sync (sync the folders we choose locally to their laptop).Ģ.) Desktop users use a mapped drive to a local NAS. Another major issue is, we have to have a separate NAS locally for our MAC users because the SMB protocol is too slow on mac and they have to use AFP. The issues range from not being able to save files from Egnyte to a local users computer when using our ERP system in a terminal services environment to users being out of sync. We have about 150 users on Egnyte, and it's starting to show signs of scaling issues. It worked well when we were small, but we are starting to feel the growing pains. 7 physical offices, spread out across the world (New York, Arizona, India, Ukraine, London)Ĭurrently, we use Egnyte as our file server/system. The business is heavily technology driven because the CEO believe very much in automation/efficiency by way of technology (and I agree with him). We have every type of user: executives, managers, interns, warehouse, contractors, sales people, remote workers. 200 employees use a laptop, desktop, mobile phone or some sort of technology. This is the first area I thought I would bring up. I am going to try to contribute more often in areas that I am strong, and also look to receive advice in areas I am weak. This is my first official STARTED thread on spice works.
